We’ve made it easy to step into the educator role — but we do have a few expectations to make sure you're set up for success. Before you book your session, make sure you’re feeling ready with the following:
Solid, Real-World Sugaring Skills
While 5+ years of experience is strongly recommended, it’s not a hard rule — but we’ll know quickly in your session if you’re skilled enough in the basics to represent SugarSMAC® as an educator. You need to show clean technique, confident control, and the ability to handle unexpected client scenarios on the spot.
Be Ready to Lead and Support
Being a SugarSMAC® Educator means more than just sugaring well. You should feel comfortable explaining techniques step by step, answering questions clearly, and giving constructive feedback — all while keeping your students calm and motivated, even when things get sticky (literally and figuratively).
Your Become an Educator Session is a 1-on-1 skill check and educator assessment. If you’re ready, we’ll approve you on the spot — no fluff, no runaround. If not, we’ll give you clear feedback so you know exactly what to work on before rebooking.

What’s the process for training a student once I’m a SugarSMAC® educator?
Once you’re endorsed, your student purchases a Professional Foundations Kit, which includes free access to the Professional Sugaring Foundations Online Course. They’ll work through the theory, videos, and exam on their own time — and then come to you for their hands-on 1-on-1 training session. You focus on practical instruction; we’ve already built the rest.
What’s included in the Foundations Kit for students?
The kit includes all the sugar paste and basic tools they need to start — plus free access to the complete online course, which covers theory, tutorials, pre/post care, and a certification exam.
Do I get paid by SugarSMAC® for training students?
No — and that’s a good thing. You set your own pricing, run your own training model, and keep 100% of what you earn. Want to charge $250 or $2500? Go for it. You're in control of your brand and business. We also don't take a cut of any of your earnings. We make money on kit sales and we're happy with that!
Can I use this program to train my own salon staff?
Yes! Once you’re endorsed, you can train your staff using our platform — saving you time and money on onboarding. They’ll purchase the student kit, complete the theory online and pass the exam, then you handle the hands-on. No more reinventing the wheel every time you hire.
How will students find me?
You’ll be listed in our Educators Directory, complete with your name, location, bio, and contact info so students can reach out and book directly. And we also encourage you to market this service however you please to find students and build this income stream.
How do I know if I’m experienced enough to become an educator?
We recommend having 5+ years of professional sugaring experience, though it’s not required. You’re welcome to book a validation session without it — but our standards are high, and we can usually tell pretty quickly if someone’s ready. We only endorse educators we believe can truly support students (especially when they get “stuck”).
What’s involved in becoming and educator with SugarSMAC®?
You must have completed:
Our Foundations Course (Formerly Level 1)
A $199 validation session where you’ll demo your technique and ability to teach/troubleshoot
Can I teach virtually or in person?
Either! You choose what works for your business. Many educators do both — virtual coaching, in-person demos, small group trainings, etc.
Do I have to create my own theory course or materials?
Nope. We’ve already done it. Once your student buys their kit, they get instant access to our complete course platform — saving you the time, money, and tech setup involved in building your own. You are responsible for your in person training session with students only and what you do in these sessions is up to you.
Do my students get a SugarSMAC® certificate?
Yes! Once your student completes both the online course and your hands-on training, they are eligible to receive a SugarSMAC® Professional Foundations Certificate if they demonstrate a good command of the primary pre and post care knowledge as well as moulding an flicking techniques. Once they've received their certificate they will be eligible to purchase Wholesale Professional products with The Sugar Shop (our sister store and head Educator Billie-Jo's business) or SugarSMAC® directly!
Are there any hidden fees?
Nope — we keep it simple and transparent.
The only fees associated with the Sugar Shop Educator Program are:
A one-time $199 Validation Session to become endorsed
A $199 annual renewal fee, due each September during our slow-season check-ins (This fee is prorated if you were certified within the last 11 months — e.g., $19/month remaining)
Renewals aren’t just a payment — they’re also a quick annual check-in session where we review your experience in the program, gather feedback, and ensure you're still active and aligned with our standards. It’s also a chance to stay connected and supported as an educator.
Your students will also need to purchase a Professional Foundations Kit to access our online theory course and training manual — this is the only way they can receive the full Sugar Shop education experience.
That’s it. No licensing fees. No subscriptions. No surprise charges. Just the tools, training, and support to grow your business — on your terms.
